Class Reflection
During my time in Mrs. Candia's English 102 class, I have learned so much about literature and have grown an appreciation for it as well. This class was a way for me to truly understand different forms of writing and how to truly understand it. Before this class, I was never interested in reading and didn't understand how someone can read a book or a whole series of novels for enjoyment, especially with poetry. The reading that had a huge impact on me in class was "The Cask of Amontillado" by Edgar Allen Poe. The thing that really drew me in with this specific reading was how Montressor could psychologically manipulate Fortunato. The suspense the Edgar can put a reader through kept me wanting to read it more. I realized through reading the story that a story is an amazing experience to go through and that is what makes a good story to me.
This semester, I believe I have been able to grow as a reader and writer. As I became a better reader I became a better writer as well. Being able to understand and appreciate a reading really helped the way I can make a clear concise statement. I had always struggled in backing up a statement and being able to analyze the evidence to make my writing clear. This class has really helped me in making essays and a stance on a literary piece.
My favorite part of the class was the Socratic seminars we had. It was such an interesting way for the whole class to talk about there ideas and opinions about the plays we read. it was interesting hearing an opinion that wasn't my own, at times the seminars would make me think about the readings differently and in ways that I didn't think of before. Not only was it interesting to hear everyone's opinion, but it was also entertaining to have little debates with my classmates. we would all talk about our answers and respectfully listen to each other acknowledging that everyone can have different answers. It was one of the reasons that made me be able to creatively think about a short reading or a poem.
In five years, I hope to be finished with my graphic novel. This class has given me a clear understanding of where I want my story to go and how I would like to tell it. It has also given me an appreciation for literature, because of this, I would like to finish a lot of books over the course of five years. I would like to thank you, Mrs. Candia, for your lessons they will help me complete it my projet.
